Small Business. Big Mission.
Small businesses are made of big people like these craftsmen and women at Maple Corner Woodworks. We work to deliver beautiful handmade furniture to your home, but also to make the world a better place.
VWS -- in a Nutshell
Ken and I started Vermont Woods Studios in 2005 because we believe that small businesses and their customers can make the world a better place. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has," Margaret Mead.
Here's how our VWS team is working to make the world a better place:
American Made Furniture
At VWS we are committed to Vermont's craftspeople and our local economy. All of our furniture is finely crafted in America, most of it from right here in Vermont. This assures you that your furniture is made in compliance with American environmental, safety and health standards.
Sustainable Sourcing
We source the wood for your furniture from local, sustainably managed forests like this one, whenever possible. Some trees don't grow in Vermont so we source that wood regionally but always in North America. Learn more about sustainable sourcing for your furniture. Forest & Wildlife Conservation
Forest and wildlife conservation are at the heart of our mission at Vermont Woods Studios. We maintain pollinator gardens and milkweed at our showroom in Vermont to help conserve the monarch butterfly during summer months. Monarchs fly to the forested mountains of Central Mexico for the winter and we help conserve that habitat too. We parter with our friends at Forests for Monarchs to plant trees in an effort to restore areas of the butterfly's winter habitat that have been destroyed by illegal logging. As of today, we've planted over 152,000 trees. Photo by Sue Sill.
Stonehurst, Our Furniture Showroom
Our Stonehurst furniture showroom in Southeastern Vermont is not only a showcase of Vermont craftsmanship, but also a demonstration of sustainable land use. We are situated on 109 acres of professionally managed woodlands and gardens. Here we nurture native trees, fruits and vegetables. Jake and Katrina have created an"edible landscape" for our customers, neighbors, colleagues (and wildlife) to enjoy. Learn more in this feature article from Vermont Magazine and come visit us at Stonehurst.
