Thank you for visiting Vermont Woods Studios! We're a small, family-owned business located in the foothills of the Green Mountain National Forest. We started our company in 2005 for a couple reasons.
First, Vermont is the fine furniture capital of America and home to our country's very best in fine, handcrafted, hardwood furniture. We wanted to partner with our local furniture builders and make these treasures easily accessible to you, whether you live in Maine, California or somewhere in-between.
Second, we believe that businesses have a responsibility to make the world a better place. At Vermont Woods Studios, our passion is forest & wildlife conservation, a topic that's been near and dear to my heart all my life. Your purchase enables us to support many non-profits working in this area, including those below. Thank you!
"Forests for Monarchs" is a non-profit started in 1997 by our good friend Jose Luis Alvarez of Michoacan, Mexico. The Eastern Monarch butterfly summers in Vermont (and other places around North America) and migrates to a mountainous forest in Michoacan, Mexico to over-winter. In recent years, the butterfly population has decreased 90% and many scientists warn that monarchs are on the verge of extinction. The population crash is largely due to illegal logging in Mexico and the eradication of butterfly habitat throughout North America.
We love this beautiful, iconic butterfly and many of us have memories of fields full of Monarchs when we were growing up. Now we see only an occasional butterfly if we're lucky.
So we've partnered with "Forests for Monarchs" to raise awareness about the butterfly's plight and restore habitat in both Vermont and Mexico. Learn more about our Monarch campaign here:
We believe our generation's most important conservation priority is to preserve the world’s rapidly disappearing rainforests. It's not a very glamorous topic and it doesn't get much attention from the media. But I'm always worried when I run into statistics like:
So we support The Nature Conservancy's Plant a Billion Trees initiative to restore the world's amazingly biodiverse rainforests.
Our progress on these environmental conservation projects is made possible by you: our customers, furniture makers, vendors, friends, neighbors, relatives and other supporters. We are truly grateful. Maybe we're not changing the world but you've given us the opportunity to try and to do our best. That's what it's all about, right?
