VWS and 1% for the Planet

What's 1% for the Planet?
One Percent for the Planet is a global non-profit whose members contribute at least 1% of their annual sales revenue to environmental causes. Their mission is to activate an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. It was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia) and Craig Mathews (founder of Blue Ribbon Flies).
Why Did We Join?
At Vermont Woods Studios we were founded for a specific purpose. It may sound odd but making beautiful wooden furniture was only our secondary purpose. Our primary purpose was and is forest conservation. Since the start weve been donating a portion of our proceeds to environmental charities that plant trees. We joined One Percent for the Planet, looking to increase our impact by collaborating with like minded people.
One Percent, Thats All?
One percent may not sound like a big deal but in the furniture industry, profits are only about 2-5% of revenue. So 1% of revenue is typically well over 20% of profits. Thats a big deal, right? For example, if Wayfair and Amazon donated 1% of their revenue to environmental projects, the world would be in significantly better shape. What are you waiting for, guys? The planet needs your help.
200,000+ Trees to Fight Climate Change & Create Habitat
Together with reforestation partners like Forests for Monarchs we've planted over 200,000 trees. We're excited about that impact as it will help fight climate change and restore habitat for wildlife. We hope you're excited too because after all, none of this would be possible without you. Thanks a million. Together were making the world a better place.
