What Ties Mission, Craftsman and Arts & Crafts Style Furniture Together?
Mission, Craftsman, and Arts & Crafts styles are often mixed and blended together as one, sometimes referred to as Mission Revival. Read more in Craftsman Style, a book by architectural historian Robert Winter and photographer Alexander Vertikoff. The classic mission furniture styles below feature elegantly simple designs, heavy proportion, accented joinery and wooden or brass drawer pulls.
For mission & craftsman style furniture with a modern flair, check out the Contemporary Craftsman furniture collection or our ever popular Cherry Moon line. All of these collections rely on the highly skilled, harmonious nature of a craftsman's steady hand to carry them forward from one generation to the next. This is furniture you family will enjoy for many years.
The Luxury of Honest Vermont Craftsmanship
Vermont is America’s last great bastion of consummate craftsmanship. The Green Mountain state boasts over 2000 small furniture making companies. They’re keeping the spirit of American craft alive. Solid Hardwood Selection
Our craftsman furniture is hand made to order, so you can customize it online, by phone or in our Vernon VT showroom. First choose your favorite hardwood. The swatches below are of natural, unstained cherry, walnut, maple and oak. If you are looking for a darker or lighter color, just use our drop down menus to order a stain. We have many choices from light ivory whitewashes to medium ambers to dark ebony and espresso stains. Each product page provides the sample color swatches available for a given product. Click on the "Order Samples" tab to purchase.
Natural Oil & Lacquer Finishes
To oil or not to oil... that is the question. Try using our filters to see which furniture is finished with natural linseed oil versus lacquer. Many of our customers are in love with the oil finish as it penetrates the wood and develops a deep, rich color that cannot be obtained with other finishes. Oil really brings out the depth of color and beauty of the grain that natural hardwoods are famous for. Over time, an oil finish will develop a rich, lustrous patina that’s beautiful to look at and super-smooth to touch. The downside to an oil finish is that it has to be maintained. You'll need to replenish the oil occasionally, maybe once a year or so depending on the temperature and humidity of your home. If re-applying oil isn't something you look forward to, no fear. A lacquer finish is maintenance free, and also very beautiful. Learn more about our fine furniture finishes and how to care for your bedroom set.
