Step 2: Select Your Wood Type
All of our wood furniture is crafted with sustainably-sourced, natural hardwoods. Much of our oak and maple wood comes from Vermont's own Green Mountains. Our walnut and cherry woods come primarily from Pennsylvania, where they grow naturally in abundance. The thumbnails below represent our woods with a clear, natural finish.
In addition, a few of our furniture collections are also available in Ash wood. Ash is another hardwood found abundantly in forests throughout the Eastern United States. We’re always happy to send you samples of our woods, stains, and finishes. You’ll find a tab for ordering wood samples on each product page.
Step 3: Select a Finish Option
Each of the workshops we represent have a finish or combinations of finishes they prefer to use. However, we also offer a number of different stains to choose from if the clear, natural finishes aren't quite what you’re looking for.

If you would like a different option than what is available on the product page, prefer your furniture unfinished, or would like to supply your own finish, give us a call! We may be able to accommodate your unique preferences.
Read more about our wood finishes here.
Step 4: Customize the Dimensions
It wouldn’t be custom furniture if we didn’t allow you to customize the dimensions of each piece to fit perfectly into your space. On each product page, you’ll find a dropdown menu where you can specify the dimensions of your furniture.
In the event that you need to specify a different set of dimensions than what is listed on our website, give us a call. We often work with our craftspeople to modify their designs to accommodate our customers.

Step 5: Additional Customizations
Depending on the type of furniture you’re looking for, there may be additional aspects to customize. Below are examples of furniture that have additional attributes that are customizable.
Custom Made Bed Frames
Custom wood beds will also require you to specify a type of bed frame. “Platform” bed frames are designed to support a mattress, but no box spring. A “Mattress & Box Spring” bed frame is designed to support both while hiding as much of the box spring as possible behind the side rails.
Most beds can be ordered in XL (extra long) sizes so if you don't see that as an option please give s a call or email us. Footboards are often available in simple, low profile designs that may not be shown. Please call for modifications to the standard design, if needed. When purchasing a custom wood bed, you’ll also be prompted about your underbed storage options. Many of our bed frames come with optional underbed storage. Would you like drawers beneath your bed, and, if so, how many?

Custom Dining Tables
A dining table can be the most important piece of furniture in your house. This is where generations of family sit down together during holidays, where new family friends and significant others are hosted, and where meaningful family bonds are created. Each family is unique and special, so we let you fine-tune the table’s details to hone in on the exact piece you envision.
Do you want your table oval or rectangular? What size are you looking for? How should the table’s legs taper off? Do you want any leaf extensions on the table? Do you want the apron of the table arched? There are so many ways to customize your dining set to pinpoint the exact look and function you desire!

Customizing Dining Chairs
Make sure each chair in your dining set is the proper fit for your table! Choose the hardwood and finish for your chair. Is it going to be a side chair or an armchair? Do you want it upholstered in a certain fabric? Do you want the seat to be a scooped wooden seat? There are many options to consider when choosing dining chairs and we cover them all!

Custom Case Goods
Whether you’re looking for customized bookcases, dressers, chests, sideboards or hutches, Vermont Woods Studios has just the piece for your needs. Customize the hardwood and finish, as well as the width and the base style for a truly one-of-a-kind case. You can also customize the pull or knob of the drawers to the exact aesthetic you desire.

Knobs & Pulls
Our furniture collections are designed by expert craftsman with decades of experience in building and designing furniture. In many cases, the knobs that accompany your furniture will be crafted in the same building as the case good itself. That said, we always look to accommodate the taste and preferences of our customers. Go with the standard pull or browse our full selection of available knobs and drawer pulls.
Here’s an example of the drawer pulls we can offer on Lyndon furniture. If you have your own hardware, let us know, and we’ll be happy to install it for you.

Custom Wood Dressers
Our custom wood dressers make the perfect addition to your bedroom set. We will custom build every aspect of the piece, from hardwood to drawer configuration, to types of knobs and drawer pulls. The result is something that is unique and beautiful, tailored to the exact specifications you envision and desire.

In Depth Customizations
Although we’ve worked hard to make customizing your furniture online as easy as possible, there may still be times when you can’t specify exactly what you’re looking for by using our drop-down menus.
If you’re interested in more involved customizations, give us a call. We’re happy to work with you to make sure that the furniture you receive will make you smile every time you walk by it for as long as it is in your home.
Our team of furniture aficionados is well-versed in the art of getting ideas onto paper, and our craftsmen are equally talented in making those ideas come to life.
Some common in-depth customizations that we do include:
- Two-tone furniture
- Different drawer configurations
- Different table legs
- Custom knobs and drawer pulls
- Custom dimensions
What Can’t We Customize?
Although most of our craftspeople are very tolerant of customizations, some prefer not to do them. Copeland Furniture, in particular, will not make customizations beyond what is offered on our website.
Copeland Furniture products are distinguished on our website by a green leaf in the upper left hand corner of product cards. These products rarely go on sale and can not be modified as easily as our other furniture.
