More than just storage, I've come across creative uses of sideboards & buffets and I'm sharing them with you!
Before I worked in the furniture industry, I looked at China Cabinets and sideboards as clunky furniture that my parents stored their fancy fine china in. I didn’t look at them as a necessary piece of furniture. Now though, I know just important they are and how useful they can be!
Often times customers will send in pictures of their buffets or sideboards and include a little note about how it’s being used. I frequently learn new and imaginative ways people are using their new storage centers and I’m sharing the knowledge I’ve acquired with you! If you already know about the beauty of a sideboard, I hope to inspire you to get creative with your storage space and if you are like I use to be, I hope I can change the way you look at sideboards!
Traditional table and flatware storage
One of the most common uses and styles of a sideboard is a China Cabinet or Hutch used as a place of storage and display. Keep your beautiful plates and pottery on display behind the glass doors of our Andrews Natural Cherry Buffet & Hutch. Keep the open shelf cleared for food or keep art-like pottery on display. Keep bulky items, mismatched tableware and table linens out of sight in the enclosed cabinets and drawers.
A mini bar
I just love this idea. As someone in their early twenties I haven’t collected much in the way of fine china or serving platters so this idea speaks the most to me. Our Addison 4 Drawer Buffet with Glass Doors is perfect for a home bar. You can display your most used and largest bottles on the solid wood top with often used glasses. You can display wine bottles on the shelves or glassware collection. Within the drawers you can hide coasters, stirring utensils, straws, etc.
An Island
Who doesn’t dream of a kitchen island? I know I certainly do. Our American Mission Sideboard has the look and feel of an island. Place a butcher’s block on top and store some of your commonly used cooking tools and supplies in the drawers and shelves. The glorious thing about having your furniture custom made is that you can do just that--have it customized. Add a thicker top to mimic a table and have it extended out to add stools below it. It sits at 36” from the floor, so it’ll match the standard height of counters. Make it unique and perfect for you!
Entryway table
Hide mail, spare keys, seldom used boots (with a shoe tray), hats & mittens and/or sporting equipment in our beautiful Cherry Moon Sideboard. Place a hand forged table lamp, plant and tray for mail that needs immediate attention or for you keychain on the top and accent the unit with a large mirror. Like this idea but don’t have that much space to spare? This collection has sideboards in a variety of sizes!
A Dresser
Similar in shape and design, a buffet is a fun alternative to a traditional dresser. Our Modern Mission Buffet allots you space for small items (socks, scarves, belts, etc.) with its drawers and gives you easy access to your clothes on the shelves below. This alternative gives you the opportunity to see all of your clothes instead of having to dig through drawers but still hides them away behind doors.
A Living Room Console
Whether you use a TV or not, a living room console is a great piece to have in your home. Opt for our Audrey Cherry 4-Door Buffet, where you can display artwork and hide DVDS, magazines, books and toys. Thinking about using it for a TV? Just ask to have wire management holes made in the back and you’ll be all set!
Buffets and sideboards are such versatile and functional pieces of furniture. You could use them for years in your dining space and then move them to other places in your house. All of our buffets and sideboards are available in cherry, maple, oak and walnut woods and are handcrafted here in Vermont. All of the wood used in our products comes from trees that were sustainably harvested here in the U.S. and we back everything with a lifetime guarantee.
