Mark Your Calendars! We're Bringing Monarch Habitat Expert Jose Luis Alvarez to the North East this Summer! Save The Monarchs Tour Sponsored by Vermont Woods Studios & DJ Agnew.
A few months ago, our Founder and CEO, Peggy Farabaugh, wrote a blog post about how our small Vermont furniture business is connected to a Monarch Butterfly habitat restoration organization in Mexico. Well, today Peggy and I are very excited to announce that the Save The Monarch Tour with Jose Luis Alvarez is happening this August and September.
You may remember that Jose is an expert silviculturist & tree nurseyman from Michoacan Mexico who has dedicated his life to conserving the Monarch habitat in Mexico.
Our Save the Monarchs Tour will start with a kickoff event here at our Vernon, Vermont Showroom, where you can interact with Jose in a small, intimate setting. From here we’re headed to the Boston Museum of Science, The Massachusetts Horticultural Society and Harvard Arnold Arboretum. After Boston we’ll make our way back to Vermont for a couple of events before heading to the Marsh Botanical Garden at Yale University and the Philadelphia Zoo. We’ll end the tour in Washington, D.C. at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum.
Jose Luis’s presentations will focus on monarch evolution, migration, discovery of over-wintering grounds, monarch population changes, deforestation, reforestation, US habitat issues, threats and future predictions. The audience will also have the opportunity to interact and ask Jose any questions they may have about monarchs and his organization, Forests for Monarchs.
Learn more about how you can get involved and help save the monarchs here. If you have questions leave them in the Comments section and Peggy and I will connect with you. We’ll be creating Facebook events so you can RSVP to the events or visit the location webpages to get more information on any entrance fee or venue restrictions.
We hope to see you on the road!
