What Can One Person (or One Small State or One Small Business) Do?
Like you, our team at VWS is watching in horror as events unfold during Russia's war on Ukraine. We are compelled to try to do something to help. In the face of such an existential threat it's hard to imagine what we can do that would make a difference. But if everyone does something, no matter how small, it will add up.
Here's What One Small State Is Doing
What can a small state like Vermont do? Governor Phil Scott issued an executive order that Vermont will donate $643,077 (one dollar for every Vermonter) for humanitarian efforts needed to support the people of Ukraine. It's not a lot but it's a start.
Here's What One Small Business is Doing
At Vermont Woods Studios we're donating $1/month/employee to support humanitarian projects in Ukraine. I asked Nina (our Creative Director who's of Ukrainian descent) to recommend a non-profit to accept our donations. She chose British-Ukrainian Aid because her family is connected to it and familiar with the impact it has had over many years. Again, it's not a lot but it's a start.
Small Gestures Can Change the World
One of the people who inspired me to risk everything and start Vermont Woods Studios was Margaret Mead. She was an American cultural anthropologist, active in the 1960s and '70s who said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” I keep thinking: if not us, then who?
You Can Change the World
I started Vermont Woods Studios in response to the problems of deforestation and climate change. What could a small business in Vermont possibly do to help solve a global problem of that magnitude? I know we're not singlehandedly saving the planet but we are doing our best to do our part. If not us, then who?
You Make Our Work Possible. Thank You
