How One Day and One Small State Can Make a Difference

In a state with a population just over 600,000 Vermont Gives Day shows how a small group of people can make a big difference. On June 7th, the state of Vermont launched its first giving day, using social media as a way to get the message out. A simple hashtag #VTGives was found trending on Twitter and leads people to learn about this day of giving.

The Vermont Gives website shows you a countdown of how much time you have left to donate, the top organization donated to and allows you to search for your favorite organization. You can learn about different organizations with detailed information about what each organization does. The site also allows you to pay for the processing fees so your entire donation goes to the organization in question.

We chose to donate to Groundworks Collaborative, an organization local to us here in Vernon, Vermont. The Collaborative works to provide families and individuals facing food and housing troubles the proper support they need to get back on their feet.

The organization offers food services, shelter/housing and support groups. This type of program is crucial for any community to be successful. That’s why we decided to donate to the Collaborative. The work they do is important and we’re happy to see it continue to make the greater Brattleboro area stronger and more successful.
