So long are the days of dens and home offices, at least in the traditional sense. With homes being built and renovated with an open layout, families are coming together in different ways. While everyone is constantly on the go, on their phones or laptops, open layouts help bring everyone together.
Tips and Advice on Buying High Quality Wood Furniture
Shopping online for high quality wood furniture requires some research. After all, fine furniture is a big investment–one you’ll want to own and enjoy for a lifetime. Vermont furniture makers have a rich history of crafting quality hardwood furniture for over 200 years. They are considered America’s fine furniture authority so we’ve rounded up a bit of their wisdom to share with you.
Sometimes to make an improvement to a room, you don’t have to completely renovate the space. This past year, I’d been feeling very unsatisfied about my living room and dining space. Instead of completely redoing those spaces, my family replaced our cheap TV console with a wood TV cabinet. And, we replaced our maple dining table and chairs with a darker stained wood dining set that better matches the wood paneling in our dining space.
As I was thinking about what I wanted to focus this blog post around, I realized something. I can’t remember the last time I had a family meal at the dinner table that wasn’t forced because of a holiday. I mean, yes, my family eats dinner each night, usually something cooked at home, but we don’t sit around the table. We maybe eat in the living room while watching the news or eat while working on our laptops. And, I don’t think I’m alone.
Learn how you can help the environment and economy by purchasing American Made Furniture this Holiday Season.
It’s hard to believe that not just 40 years ago when you bought wood furniture, or any product for that matter, it was most likely made right here in America by a skilled craftsman. The crew at the workshop or factory was most likely paid a fair and livable wage and the price of the product reflected that. We took pride in American Made Furniture.
With hundreds of Shaker style furniture pieces, Vermont Woods Studios is your shaker furniture destination.
If you got to know me, I think you’d quickly figure out I’m one of the most indecisive people out there. Even the simplest of choices I over-ponder and then doubt once I’ve made up my mind. I’m talking everything from which dessert after dinner to which jacket to wear to the direction I want my bed facing.
Bring the tropics to you and turn your home into a permanent vacation.
I’ve recently been thinking a lot about a vacation to somewhere tropical…Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Thailand. Well, realistically, those thoughts will have to stay in my dreams. But, I’ve noticed a popular trend right now that’s fitting for my vacation dreams. It seems a lot of people are channeling the tropics with a design circa 1940s Beverly Hills.
Clean, Refreshing and Relaxing Wood Beds Can Transform Your Bedroom Into An Oasis.
There’s nothing like escaping into your bed after a long summer day spent in the heat and humidity. When my body is exhausted from soaking in probably a little too much sun and being swept up in the waves at the beach, there’s little I look forward to more than slipping in-between the cool sheets and blankets at night.
It may be time for a yard sale if your living room furniture hasn’t been updated since 1995.
Over the years it’s easy to amass furniture from many different places. Yard sales, inherited heirlooms, estate sales and children have all been the cause of mismatched furniture pieces in homes across America. Even if you have matching living room furniture, chances are it’s been in your home for a decade or two.
Why let the table and chairs have all the attention? We think what you put around them is just as important!
You’ve just invested a lot of time and money into your new dining table and chairs. The furniture has arrived and is set up in your dining room. Now what? You have the main attraction, so what you choose to decorate the rest of the room with should be selected with care. You wouldn’t buy a nice suit or dress and pair it with low-quality accessories, would you?
I chose four pieces that should be next on your list.
Dining Bench-It’s nice alternative seating and can be multi-functional if you decide down the road you’d like more chairs. What I like the most about benches is that they give the illusion of fitting more people. And I love the idea of having a lot of people around the table enjoying a meal together.
Sideboard or Hunt Board-More than just a storage space, these pieces can complement or accent your dining table and chairs. A sideboard, traditionally has more cabinet space and a hunt board you’ll notice is more table like with longer legs and usually offers less storage space. They’re great for hiding less commonly used china, silverware and other glassware. And, they act as extra surface space for large meals and decorations.
Mirror-I’m not sure where this idea came from, but I love when dining rooms have a large mirror in them. It gives the illusion of more space, it can take up a lot of wall space if needed to complement the size of your furniture and can be used for practical purposes as well.
Statement Chandelier-There’s nothing I like less than a missed opportunity and I think lighting (which is important for the ambiance of a room) is often one of them. A chandelier is like the icing on the cake. It completes the room. You can have one that’s simple or ornate in design but most importantly it should match the style/theme of your room. You don’t want to go overboard and end up with an eye sore.
If you’re unsure of where to start, I’d choose a piece that you know you need. Do you need more storage and surface space, is your dining room small, does it need better lighting, etc. and go from there.
