Food Donation to Load the Latchis

Every year the local radio station hosts a food drive at the historic Latchis Hotel & Theater in Downtown Brattleboro for our neighbors in need. The goal of the event is to load every seat at the theater, 750 in total. This year, Megan and Peggy collected five bags full of food to donate to the event.

Metamorphosis of a Vermont Furniture Showroom

Inlaid monarch butterfly on maple end table — Breeze Verdant inlayed this beautiful monarch butterfly into a maple end table that Ken and Kyle built. It’s on display at Stonehurst until August 26th.

With our Save the Monarchs tour coming up next week, we decided to dress this Vermont furniture showroom up for the occasion. Ken and Kyle built a beautiful maple end table and brought it over to Breeze Verdant who inlaid that amazing monarch image above. There are actually over 100 tiny pieces of wood and metal in it!

Monarch Artistry in our Vermont Furniture Showroom — The Save the Monarchs banner, pamphlets & stickers were created by our ace artist, photographer & all around creative genius, Nina. That’s a monarch nursery in the upside-down mesh clothes hamper. Several monarchs in all different stages of metamorphosis are inside. Hopefully some will be able to join us for the tour.

Monarch Butterflies have long been a popular and famous insect. Their image is used everywhere from GMO free food labels to makeup ads. And, just a couple of months ago President Obama met with the Canadian Prime Minister and Mexican President to discuss how these three countries can save the monarch. With seven states including Vermont calling it their state insect, it’s a wonder how we’ve let the monarch butterfly population reach the endangered zone.

I’ve recently been thinking a lot about a vacation to somewhere tropical…Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Thailand. Well, realistically, those thoughts will have to stay in my dreams. But, I’ve noticed a popular trend right now that’s fitting for my vacation dreams. It seems a lot of people are channeling the tropics with a design circa 1940s Beverly Hills.

One of the monarchs we raised at Vermont Woods Studios last summer. — The monarch butterfly brought Jose Luis Alvarez, Francois Simard and me together in our efforts to help save it from extinction.

Can 3 World Leaders & 3 Small Businesses Save the Monarch Butterfly?

Last month President Obama met with Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to discuss climate change and how our three countries can save essential pollinators from extinction. Independent of that meeting, another Mexican, a Canadian and an American were working on the same thing. Jose Luis Alvarez, Francois Simard and I somehow connected because we all love nature and believe that small businesses can & should have a positive effect on the world around us. The part of nature we’re focused on is the beautiful (and endangered) monarch butterfly.

Daughters of Toleza Scholarship

For the past several years, we’ve donated to the Daughters of Toleza Scholarship, a NPO that assists young girls in Malawi get the financial support they need to attend school. This year we helped three young girls graduate and all are preparing to take the national college entrance examinations this month. Way to go girls!!
