Copeland Furniture Showroom
Dennis, Pam, and Nina at the Copeland Furniture Company Store

Last week, we had the opportunity to visit Copeland and attend a two day session where we learned more about their workshop, processes, and new product lines. This was such a great opportunity for us because it allows us to pass this extensive knowledge on to you!

The Hands That Hold the Future

Monarch Butterfly Workshop at Nature Camp in Hinesburg, Vermont
Eileen Ashe invited me to teach about monarchs at Nature Camp, sponsored by the United Church of Hinesburg, VT last week. Students made seed balls out of potting soil, clay and water.  We put milkweed and flower seeds in each ball and rolled them into sunny meadows where they’ll grow to produce habitat & food for monarchs next year.

Spotlight on Maple Corner Woodworks

Maple Corner Woodworks | Handmade Bedroom Furniture
The Andover Modern bedroom set is a newer addition to Maple Corner Woodwork’s catalog but it’s quickly gaining popularity.  Andover fuses traditional Shaker and modern design.

The Best Kept Secret in Vermont’s Furniture World

Tucked away in Central Vermont’s rolling hills is a quintessential New England furniture studio called Maple Corner Woodworks.  Our friend, Robin Chase started Maple Corner Furniture in 1982 when he built a woodworking studio adjacent to his home in Calais, Vermont. Robin wanted to provide people with beautiful, elegantly designed wooden furniture that would last a lifetime.

Monarchs Are Rebounding & So Are We

Last updated on August 14th, 2018 at 12:03 pm

Monarchs Rebounding | 2017 | Vermont Woods Studios
We’ve seen dozens of monarchs this year at our Stonehurst showroom in Vernon, Vermont.  It’s exciting because last year we saw only a handful. On this World Nature Conservation Day it’s nice to report that things are on the upswing.

It’s Working!

Nature nuts and monarch lovers: your hard work of planting milkweed & nectar flowers is paying off.  Butterfly populations seem to be bouncing back this year after decades of decline.  It’s too soon to declare victory but many encouraging signs are out there.  We’ll have to wait for the official reports from Monarch Joint Venture but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

The Craftspeople of Vermont Furniture Designs

Rob Bachand and Adam Blaisdell are the new owners and master craftsmen at Vermont Furniture Designs.  VFD is one of the Green Mountain State’s most respected furniture companies — it’s been around since 1970, nearly half a century.  Today we’re sending out our congratulations to it’s new leadership, Rob and Adam who took over the company upon the recent retirement of founder, Arthur Weitzenfeld.  Rob has been crafting furniture at VFD for 30 years and Adam for 16.  We’re excited to see them take the helm and continue the tradition of producing handmade furniture of exceptional quality and design.

Vermont Woods Studios is Proud to Support VPR
Silviculturalist Jose Luis Alvarez and I were interviewed by Nina Keck at VPR last Fall. The Vermont Edition show offered us a chance to share our passion for conserving monarch butterfly habitat in Vermont and Mexico.

VPR Underwriter

  • “I know… I heard about that on All Things Considered last night”
  • “Are you going to the Vermont Brewers Festival this year?” “When is it?” “Not sure… check VPR’s website”
  • “What’s the forecast this weekend?” “I just heard Mark Breen say it’s going to be gorgeous”

Spotlight on Georgie Runkle

Last updated on August 15th, 2018 at 04:29 pm

Georgie Runkle | Vermont Plein Air Painter
Surrounded by her favorite paintings, Georgie works in her studio on the days that just don’t lend themselves to plein air.  We asked our friend Shane McFalls at Mondo Mediaworks of Brattleboro to film Georgie as part of our video about the artists and furniture makers featured at Vermont Woods Studios.

Vermont’s Beloved Plein Air Painter

One of our favorite Vermont artists is Georgie Runkle.  Georgie’s a plein air painter– she loves to be outside painting the scenes she comes across that speak to her heart. You may see her along Vermont’s rural by-ways painting a covered bridge, an old barn, a general store or a grand old home with rockers on a wrap-around porch.
