It may be time for a yard sale if your living room furniture hasn’t been updated since 1995.
Over the years it’s easy to amass furniture from many different places. Yard sales, inherited heirlooms, estate sales and children have all been the cause of mismatched furniture pieces in homes across America. Even if you have matching living room furniture, chances are it’s been in your home for a decade or two.
I’ve noticed since working in the furniture industry that living room accent furniture is often overlooked. It’s not surprising really, when you have dining tables, beds, couches and even patio furniture to consider that accent furniture would be overshadowed.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m a pretty big fan of mismatched furniture. Maybe the idyllic thought of it is a product of my millennial mentality but I also see the advantage of having matching accent furniture. That’s not to say you shouldn’t or can’t have a unique statement piece, but like all things, the design of your living room should be cohesive.
Matching accent furniture is like the color that binds your blouse and sweater or the piece of jewelry that makes an outfit. It helps tie everything together.
With that said, here are 5 living room accent furniture collections to match your personality.
Who this is good for: Do circles and curves in furniture make you cringe? Mission style furniture may be the way to go for you. It’s a classic design that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon.
Who this is good for: Shaker furniture is great for someone looking for simplicity. There’s a lot thrown at us these days and Shaker style furniture is a friend of no frill. It allows you to make a statement with a pop of color on the wall or with a bold pattern of a sofa.
Who this is good for: Great for the trendsetter in you. Rustic Industrial design often blends sleek, clean design with traditional design and does well when paired with furniture that is almost streamlined and neutral in design.
Who this is good for: Modern or contemporary style furniture is great for someone really looking to have a lot of fun with their furniture and space. Look for unique designs, bright colors/stains, versatility and function. There really is no limit with modern furniture.
Who this is good for: French Country style is great for someone looking for simple elegance. The curves of the legs make this collection effortlessly sophisticated and is perfect company for plush, luxurious seating and rich colored walls.
The opportunities are endless when it comes to decorating your living space and these are just a few of the options. Do you have an idea not listed here? Let me know in the comments!
