International Day of Forests, 2017

Our Forest at Vermont Woods Studios | International Day of Forests
Happy International Day of Forests! Stop by Stonehurst and celebrate with a hike through our 100 acre woodland that’s sustainably managed by our friend & professional forester, Lynn Levine. You bring the picnic lunch and we’ll supply the snow shoes!

Celebrate by Planting a Tree

Every year the United Nations proclaims March 21 the International Day of Forests.  As wood furniture makers, we’ve always been focused on forest conservation so today is a day to celebrate at Vermont Woods Studios.  What better reason to plant a tree?  But, it’s a little chilly here & there’s still a foot of snow on the ground so we’re collaborating with our friends at Forests for Monarchs FFM.  Together we’ll plant 100 trees in the monarch butterfly’s forested over-wintering habitat in Mexico.  If you want to join the celebration, check out FFM’s website where they’ll plant 2 trees for every dollar you donate.

2017 Theme:  Forests & Energy

Each year there’s a different theme for today’s holiday and this year it’s all about how much energy the forest stores and provides.  The forest is Nature’s powerhouse.  Did you know that 40% of today’s global renewable energy supply comes from the forest?  That’s as much as solar, hydro and wind combined! Forests fuel people too:

The Need for Forest Conservation

Our forests are in distress.  Rainforests alone are disappearing at a rate of >80,000 acres/day.  Because of that some 135 plant, animal and insect species are going extinct every day.  At Vermont Woods Studios we’re doing our part to raise awareness about the urgency of forest conservation.  We plant at least 1 tree for every order we take.  Last week I calculated the total number of trees we’ve planted since we started our business in 2005.  Guess how many?  50,000 trees!  Our goal is to plant another 5000 trees in 2017.
