Lead Times

At Vermont Woods Studios, each piece of handcrafted furniture is made to order. The standard lead time for our craftspeople to complete your furniture is 4-12 weeks, depending on the specific items ordered. Then, depending on where you live, it typically takes about 1-6 weeks for white glove shipping and delivery. So total lead time including crafting and white glove shipping is 5-18 weeks, although the average lead time is 9 weeks.

Shipping Procedure - you are involved - read on!

  • Trained and experienced drivers will carefully blanket wrap each piece of furniture and pack it safely onto their truck.
  • Transit may take 1 to 6 weeks depending on your location.
  • The shipper will work with you to schedule your delivery within a 4-hour window.
  • On arrival, your furniture will be brought into your house, unwrapped by the delivery crew and positioned in any room you choose. Most furniture is shipped fully assembled but if further assembly is required it will be completed (such as setting up a bed), and packing material will be removed. Please note: the shipping agent is instructed to handle the movement of only the furniture you purchased from Vermont Woods Studios (sometimes customers request our shippers to move additional items. Negotiations like that are between you and the agent, and at the agent's rates).
  • On arrival, you will carefully inspect each piece to be sure that no damage has occurred during shipping. In the rare case that damage has occurred, customers must note it on the shipper's waybill and contact Vermont Woods Studios immediately so we may to assist you.

  • Shipping and handling charges are non-refundable.

Customers must follow this required inspection procedure upon receipt of their furniture so we can be sure it arrived at your home safely and without damage.

Standard Item Shipping Option - Free!

If you have a small order that can be shipped via UPS, Fed Ex or common carrier, we may select this as the best option for you.Typically we can use this option for small tables: end tables, sofa tables, coffee tables and bedside tables that can be shipped with the legs detached. Customers will be supplied with all necessary hardware, tools and simple instructions to attach the legs to their tables.

Lead Times

At Vermont Woods Studios, each piece of handcrafted furniture is made to order. The standard lead time for our craftspeople to build your furniture is 4-12 weeks, depending on the specific items ordered. Then depending on where you live, it typically takes about 2-10 days for standard common carrier shipping and delivery. So the total lead time including crafting and standard common carrier shipping is about 4-14 weeks although the average lead time is 7 weeks.

Standard Common Carrier Shipping Procedure - you are involved - read on!

  • When feasible, the shipper will work with you to schedule a 4 hour delivery window, and the delivery crew will deliver your furniture to your doorstep.
  • Transit may take 2-10 days depending on your location.
  • Standard shipping does not include white glove delivery.
  • On arrival, you will need to bring the furniture into your house, unpack it and carefully inspect each piece to be sure that no damage has occurred during shipping. In the rare case that damage occurs, customers must note it on the shipper's waybill and contact Vermont Woods Studios as soon as possible. See Furniture Delivery and Inspection below.
  • There will be LOTS of packaging foam and cardboard to dispose of. Can you reuse it to ship holiday gifts, or store items? If not, is there a packaging store nearby that you could donate it to? Please help us reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Shipping and handling charges are non-refundable.

Furniture Delivery and Inspection

Regardless of the option you choose for shipping, you are required to thoroughly inspect your furniture upon delivery and prior to signing the shipper's waybill. We have rarely had instances of shipping damage, because we go to great lengths to avoid it, but it is a remote possibility that we are prepared to resolve if necessary.

First, know that your furniture is well-insured during transit. In the rare occasion of damage however, we are unable to assist and file an insurance claim without the customer’s notation of the damage on the shippers waybill.

Please be sure to inspect each piece of furniture individually for damage.

You are responsible for properly describing any and all damages on the shipper's waybill.

  • If your furniture has been standard shipped, check the outside of the cartons your furniture is packed in.
  • If the boxes show any evidence of rough handling note this on all copies of the shippers waybill.
  • If a delivery crew refuses to wait while you inspect the furniture, note on the waybill that the “driver refused to wait for inspection of contents. Final determination of possible damage to contents will be made when packages are opened after delivery."
  • Document any issues or damage (no matter how minor) in detail on the shipper’s waybill and have the delivery crew co-sign the waybill.
  • Contact us immediately by calling 888-390-5571 and we will assist you. You will need to email us digital photos of any damage or issues so that we can best determine how to resolve the situation for you.
  • If damage is substantial, refuse the item and have the shipper return it to the sender for repair or replacement.
  • Minor damage like a scratch or even replacement of a door or drawer, is usually best handled through repairs which are done at your home and performed by experts on behalf of the shipper. We will send new parts for the shipper's furniture medic to install, if necessary.
  • If your shipment is missing any pieces, have the driver note the shortage on the waybill. Advise us of any shortage and we will trace the shipment. If the shortage cannot be located within a reasonable time, the missing items will be replaced.

Proper Care of New Furniture with an Oil Finish

When you receive furniture with an oil finish you may notice that the wood is still tacky from the last layer of oil we have applied in the studio. Not to worry. Just use a clean, soft cloth and wipe down the surface of the wood. Then refer to any special care instructions about your furniture for the additional oiling that is required for these pieces (for example here are special care instructions for the Modern American Furniture, Modern Shaker Furniture and Contemporary Craftsman Furniture Collections).

Exceptions to Free Shipping

  • Free shipping is offered for most locations in the lower 48 states, with a few exceptions, for example islands and other remote locations where access is difficult. If access to your home or office is difficult, you are required to let us know at the time of order so we can advise you at that time if additional charges apply. With proper planning we can negotiate shipping upcharges for remote locations. Negotiation is very difficult at the time of delivery and upcharges can be expensive. We'd like to help you avoid this.
  • If you have spiral staircases or other logistical challenges in accessing your home, be sure to let us know at the time of order placement so we can advise you if additional charges apply. In the event that our white glove shippers are unaware of such difficulties prior to delivery, our policy is to place your furniture at the inside of your threshold.
  • Custom Artisan Furniture and Rustic Barnwood furniture do not include free shipping. Contact us for shipping quotes to your home.
  • Free standard delivery for our POLYWOOD outdoor furniture is via express carriers, rather than white glove delivery. White glove delivery for POLYWOOD is rarely necessary.
  • Customers who do not show up for scheduled deliveries may be charged additional fees to reschedule.
  • Home decor items do not include free shipping unless they are purchased as part of a furniture order.

International Shipping:

  • We ship to Canada and other international locations.
  • Often exchange rates help to offset the cost of international shipping.
  • Customers in Canada will find purchasing from Vermont Woods Studios to be much like their domestic purchasing processes, however shipping, duties and fees must be quoted for each individual order prior to the sale. Call or email us for details and estimates.
  • Customers in Europe, Asia, Africa and other overseas locations should be aware that certain additional charges for shipping, crating and import duties will apply.
  • We typically advise overseas customers seeking a competitive price that a minimum order of $25,000 is required to overcome the additional costs of shipping and importation.

Outdoor Polywood Furniture, Free Shipping

Your POLYWOOD outdoor furniture will be shipped to you free of charge within the continental USA. Typically, we ship POLYWOOD furniture via UPS unless an item is too big to meet the UPS size and weight criteria. Large, over-size items are shipped via common carrier.

Standard UPS and common carrier delivery include bringing the poly wood furniture to the threshold of your home. They do not include bringing the furniture inside.

Free POLYWOOD shipping is offered for most locations in the lower 48 states, with a few exceptions, for example islands and other remote locations where access is particularly difficult. If access to your home or office is difficult, please be sure to let us know at the time of order so we can advise you at that time if additional charges apply.

POLYWOOD Furniture Delivery Times

Many POLYWOOD outdoor furniture products are items that are stocked and they will ship within 1-5 business days of order processing. All other orders will ship within two weeks of order placement with the following notations:

  • Our most popular cushion fabric colors are stocked and cushions in those fabrics are made to order immediately upon order processing, and shipped within 2 weeks of order placement. See chair product pages for fabric color options.
  • Specialty and custom cushion fabric colors are also made to order and take 3 weeks to craft and ship
  • Plastique and Euro products are made to order and take 2-3 weeks to craft and ship
  • During peak seasons some items may require 1-3 weeks to ship. If this is the case, we will email you with details upon order placement

Approximate Shipping Times are Not Guaranteed

  • While most orders arrive in a very timely manner, shipping times cannot be guaranteed. Please note that circumstances do arise that are beyond our control, i.e. - extreme weather conditions, lost or misdirected packages due to carrier errors, and credit card authorization problems. In these rare situations, the delivery time can be delayed a bit and expected shipping times are not guaranteed. We do everything within our control to expedite every order.
  • POLYWOOD orders are shipped via UPS or common carrier. We are unable to guarantee a specific date or time of delivery at the time of order. Customers will, however receive a tracking number for their shipments, which can be used for online monitoring.
