It's Earth Day!

The Lazy Person's Guide to Saving the Planet

The Lazy Person's Guide to Saving the Planet

My best friend just told me she's too lazy to do anything for Earth Day. What??? That's not gonna work. Even the laziest of us have to do SOMETHING to help save the planet. So here's a list of 5 suggestions for all you couch potatoes. If you don't have the energy to read through them, just skip to #5.

#1 Plant a Tree

Plant a tree for Earth Day 2017
This is a no-brainer on Earth Day. Trees are Earth's best friend. As the biggest plants on the globe, trees give us oxygen, store carbon, stabilize the soil and give life to the world's wildlife. The Arbor Day Foundation will send you 10 free trees to plant in your yard. Even easier... have them send the trees to someone else and they can do the planting.

#2 Grow Milkweed

Earth Day 2107 Suggestion #1: Grow Milkweed The monarch butterfly population is down over 90% in the USA, Canada & Mexico due to habitat destruction. Join our effort to save the monarch butterfly by restoring their summer habitat, which is milkweed. Stop by Stonehurst and pick up some free milkweed seeds or buy them at your nearest nursery. If either of those options is too much trouble, order free milkweed seeds online.

#3 March for Science

March for Science, Vermont 2017
March for Science is an international movement to celebrate science and support the scientific community. "It is time for people who support scientific research and evidence-based policies to take a public stand and be counted." Whether you're a scientist or a fan, join others in over 500 cities around the world to March for Science. Vermont will have events in Burlington, Brattleboro, Rutland, and Montpelier.

#4 Clean Up on Green Up Day

Green Up Day 2016, Vermont Woods Studios
Green up Day is the first Saturday in May every year, so it's May 6th this year. It's the day that decent, Earth loving community members go out and clean up the trash their apathetic neighbors threw out along roadsides, in parks and on beaches. At Vermont Woods Studios we've been cleaning up the Connecticut River front in Vernon for the past several years. We all leave work early on Green Up Day, clean up the shoreline and then head to Nesbitt's Portside Tavern to rest, recuperate and replenish. Join us this year-- we have a great time!

#5 Donate Money

Donate to Earth Day 2017

OK if none of these suggestions suit your fancy or if you're exhausted even at the thought, then surely you have enough energy to take you mouse and click over to the Earth Day Network where you can donate to help power the movement.
Let us know which one of our suggestions you took us up on (or at least considered) on our Facebook! We've planted over 50,000 trees at Vermont Woods Studios and are planting at least 2 more for each furniture order. Read more about our environmental mission here.
