Live Edge Walnut Slab Tables by Vermont Artisan Greg Goodman

April 14th, 2011 by Peggy Farabaugh

Walnut-slab-table-custom Our friend Greg Goodman made this beautiful Live Edge Custom Walnut Slab Table.  Greg has a studio in The Cotton Mill in Brattleboro where he works with fellow woodworker Bela creating some of the finest wood furniture and cabinetry in Vermont.  Greg let us film some of his work recently and we've included it in a short video about Vermont Woods Studios Furniture that's available on our website.

It shows Greg working on a huge slab of catalpa wood, crafting it into a gorgeous custom dining table. In the video he talks about George Nakishima who is a source of inspiration for his slab tables. Nakishima, a Japanese-American woodworker and architect was a pioneer in the art of transforming figured organic wood forms like live edge slabs and burls into custom tables and furniture for the home.

You can watch the video that includes Greg's live edge table creation here.  We'll post additional videos of Greg's work over the next couple weeks.  If you're looking for a live edge table, Greg has the one shown above in his shop now.
